Below is my process in creating a work attire for my client:

Customer Profile

My client was a petite woman in her early twenties with a preference for feminine and modest styling. Having recently arrived in Chicago, she was seeking opportunities to enter a professional work environment. During our initial consultation, I took her measurements and discussed her comfort level with various silhouettes. Given her narrow frame, we agreed that a godet skirt would provide balanced proportions and add subtle volume to her overall look. To honor her modest style, I completed the outfit with a cardigan layered over her blouse, ensuring she felt confident, comfortable, and true to her personal values.

MUSLINS

Creating muslins helped me to understand the garment's overall construction and was my guide for my customer's fitting. During the fitting, I identified several tailoring adjustments, including shortening the cardigan and the skirt hem to achieve proper proportion. I then continued the consultation by discussing design details with my client, such as material selection, precise measurements, length preferences, and color options.

Process

After the fitting, I was able to make the proper adjustments to my patterns and began to cut out my final fabric. This project helped me develop a deeper understanding of patternmaking such as tailoring patterns and collaborating with my customer to fit their needs.
